It seems obvious that the yawn should be a natural reflex the body provide to acquire more oxygen but that has been long proven false. Yawns do not come from a lack of oxygen. There are often contagious. The seem to happen when we are tired or possible after long periods of shallow breathing, etc. There may be many reasons.......

No one knows for sure why we yawn. It seems obvious that the yawn should be a natural reflex the body provide to acquire more oxygen but that has been long proven false. Just Google "why do we yawn" and you'll see a plethora of answer. Here's an example ---> http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3076713
The best way to stop yawning is to stop yawning. It's not beyond your control. People can easily be shocked out of a yawn or a sneeze by a loud noise or a sudden distraction. We are all capable of not yawning if we want to...something that is often done in polite company so as not to signal our possible boredom to others. I have bouts of yawning and they usually follow a workout. I can yawn without opening my mouth by breathing through my nose deeply. I get the same satisfaction without being impolite and having to cover my mouth. They come and go and I know not why.
Your problem with yawning is probably psychological. Just discipline yourself and you'll be fine. Try taking several short breaths and see if that helps.
Good luck and good health!!

I don't think that you will be able to stop it but you can prevent it, don't open your mouth wide when you sing, and breathe deeper during rests (in music speak)
